REGISTRATION OPENS ON AUGUST 18.  Advanced registration is strongly encouraged and requested, plus you save $5.  If there are still spots available, day of 'at the gate' registration is also an option.

Luther Midelfort has announced the dates for the spring Teen Driving Class (April 16) and the adult/coaches class (March 27).  See the Car Control Class page for details.  CVSCC members are again needed to help coach the students in their vehicles, sign up for the coaches class if you have not done this before, past attendees are asked to help with the coaches class or can take it as a refresher if needed.

Attention all CVSCC Members (and potential members):

This Tuesday, Feb 15 is our first meeting of 2011.  As with most of our past meetings it will be held at Maple Manor at 7pm.  The agenda will include going over a couple of Met Council rule updates/changes including an official kart class at Met Council events and updating helmet requirements to Snell 2005 to discuss.  A tentative event calendar including autocross schedule will also be reviewed.  The featured presentation will be from Shane Donahue, Chief of Timing from MAC, regarding some new events and cross promotion.  The idea is to cross-promote our autox events with drag racing events attended by the MN Sport Compact Club as a new trophy series.

Results from the June 27 CVSCC Autocross - Dick Feeney Challenge are now available at the Met Council website by Class, PAX/RTP, and Raw Time. Our next autocross will be Sept. 19th.

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 20.  Join us for our Outdoor Movie Night and cookout.  Luke & Eileen Howard will be hosting this event at their home.  We will have a short meeting at 6:30, followed by a cookout and viewing of "Truth In 24" the acclaimed documentary about the Audi Team at the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans. Teens who attend this day-long event will experience real-world driving/accident avoidance situations in a safe environment, and learn how to correct them!  The goal of this class is not to teach teens how to drive. Rather, trained professionals will coach teens on how to be safer drivers while having them experience driving situations that frequently cause panic and over-correction resulting in accidents.

CVSCC is moving our website to Google Sites for faster and joint editing of the website.  While this limits our options and control somewhat, it's hoped that this is made up for by the more frequent updates that will be possible with multiple board members being able to edit and provide news updates.  In addition, this new site allows for RSS subscriptions of CVSCC news entries so you can be notified when the front page news is updated.  As before, it also still pulls in the shared CVSCC calendar that you can also subscribe to.  You can find all past news items from the old website here and past newsletters here.

A number of CVSCC members have reserved Met Council numbers that expire at the end of 2009.  Here's your reminder to renew.  For those that have not ever owned a number, now is your chance to know in advance of autocross events what number you will have.  You can even purchase nice quality numbers if you wish since that number can be reserved for your use for 2 years at a time with first right to renew.

At the last meeting of 2009 it was decided to change the monthly meeting day from Thursdays to Tuesdays.  This means the next meeting will be February 16th at the Maple Manor Lounge, hope to see you there!  The calendar was also updated to reflect this.

Our November meeting will be held at The Maple Lounge on Thursday, November 19th at 7 pm. A (short) meeting will precede our Holiday Party. The club will be covering expenses for the party.

Hello to all my readers,
 
Just a note to let you know that our good friend Dick Feeney took his final checkered flag Wednesday, February 23rd, 2010.  I don't have a day/time for the funeral yet but will let you know as soon as I find out.
 
Dick was the only charter member of the CVSCC still active in the club, I think it is safe to say that the good of the club and it's traditions were always very important to him.  I spent some thime with Dick this past Sunday afternoon, one of his first questions was "how is the club doing?"  We talked about a number of things including this year's schedule, he was really happy to see our club getting involved with the teen car control clinic, you could tell he would have loved to take an active part in it.  Dick will be greatly missed for both his knowledge and his friendship, like any friend there were times when he could drive you crazy, (there was rarely a quick answer to a quick question), but he was always honest in his dealings and if he didn't agree with you at least you knew it.  One thing that really impressed me about Dick was how he accepted his situation and got on with life right up until the end.  In one of our last conversations he said he wasn't afraid of dying because if there is something on the other side it is bound to be good, and if there is nothing there, you have nothing to be afraid of because you won't know it.  Tough to argue with that.
 
I trust that if there is something on the other side Dick will always have a front row grid spot, turn in great autocross times, and zero every checkpoint.  I consider myself lucky to have been able to call Dick a friend.

Club member, Dick Feeney's funeral is Tuesday, March 2 at 11:30 a.m. at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2510 11th St., Eau Claire.  There is a one hour visitation prior to the service in the church gathering room.  His obituary is available online at www.fullerspeckien.com and will appear in the Sunday Leader Telegram and online.
